Third-party autofocusRestricted by the manufacturer

Canon has kept RF largely closed. Sigma and Tamron were permitted APS-C (RF-S) autofocus lenses from 2025, but there is still no licensed third-party full-frame autofocus range. This is the most common complaint about the system and the question buyers most often search before committing.

Putting other lenses on a Canon RF body

Putting Canon RF lenses on other bodies

Canon RF lenses cannot usefully be adapted onto another mount. The mount is electronically controlled and its lenses have no aperture ring, so on a body that cannot speak to them they would sit stuck at a single aperture.
