Does a Sony E lens fit a Nikon Z body?
Yes, with a simple adapter and no loss of image quality. Sony E has a flange focal distance of 18.0 mm and Nikon Z has 16.0 mm, leaving 2.0 mm for the adapter to occupy. Because the adapter contains no glass, the lens performs exactly as it does on its native mount.
The 2.0 mm margin here is unusually tight. Adapters exist, but they are precision items and the cheap ones are more likely to sit a fraction out of true, which shows up as soft corners or a focus scale that no longer matches infinity.
Autofocus: Autofocus, with caveats
Unusual in that it adapts one modern mirrorless mount onto another — possible only because Nikon Z’s flange distance is 2 mm shorter than Sony E’s. Autofocus and eye detection work with most native E lenses, but behaviour is lens-dependent and firmware updates have repeatedly changed which lenses work.
