Canon FD lenses on Sony E
Does a Canon FD lens fit a Sony E body?
Yes, with a simple adapter and no loss of image quality. Canon FD has a flange focal distance of 42.0 mm and Sony E has 18.0 mm, leaving 24.0 mm for the adapter to occupy. Because the adapter contains no glass, the lens performs exactly as it does on its native mount.
Autofocus: Manual focus only
FD glass is cheap precisely because Canon orphaned it in 1987 and it cannot be put back on a Canon SLR without corrective optics. On short-flange mirrorless it adapts with a plain ring and no optical penalty.
What to watch for
Avoid FD-to-EF adapters containing a corrective element. They degrade the image and exist only to solve a problem mirrorless does not have.
