Canon EF lenses on Sony E

26 mm flange clearance autofocus with caveats

Does a Canon EF lens fit a Sony E body?

Yes, with a simple adapter and no loss of image quality. Canon EF has a flange focal distance of 44.0 mm and Sony E has 18.0 mm, leaving 26.0 mm for the adapter to occupy. Because the adapter contains no glass, the lens performs exactly as it does on its native mount.

Autofocus: Autofocus, with caveats

Autofocus works, and for single-shot stills it is close to native. Continuous tracking and eye detection are where it falls down, and how badly depends far more on the individual lens than on the adapter. Sigma’s MC-11 is only officially supported with Sigma’s own EF lenses, though it drives many Canon ones anyway.

What to watch for

There is no adapter that makes every EF lens behave. Check your specific lens before buying, and treat any “full compatibility” claim on a listing as marketing.
